PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
